Steve Thorrington

Steve joined WS&L as Chief Executive Officer in March 2025, bringing more than 30 years of experience across financial services, working with charities, not-for-profit organisations, commercial businesses and private clients.

Our team

Julie - Lending and Member Services Manager
Julie leads our lending and member services team. Her team deal with your loan applications and account opening.

Member Services Officers
This is our frontline team. They deliver the day-to-day member experience you receive, processing loan applications, making withdrawals and answering your questions to keep our members supported.

Kathryn - Business Development & Marketing Manager
Kathryn manages and develops the partnerships and initiatives that are key to helping WS&L grow, raising our profile and reaching more members across the South West.

Caroline - Project Manager
Caroline works with our housing partners to promote ethical borrowing and savings throughout communities in the South-West.

Our Communications team
Our communications team make sure members and colleagues inside and outside of WS&L receive the news and updates they need to stay informed and connected.

Finance team
Our finance team take care of everything financial behind the scenes at WS&L, from managing accounts to keeping our financial records accurate and up to date. This team also includes our credit controller, who helps borrowing members stay on track with their repayments, safeguarding members’ savings and supporting healthy, sustainable lending.

Our Volunteer Board

Like all credit unions, we are governed by a volunteer board. We are owned by our members, and the board do the very important job of overseeing the running of the credit union to ensure that we are always acting in the best interests of the members.

Our board members come from a variety of different professions and bring with them a wealth of experience, providing vital support to the team at Westcountry Savings and Loans.

We are always keen for new board members to join us, so please get in touch if you are interested.

Supervisory Committee
Our Supervisory Committee operates independently of the Board, providing an additional layer of oversight on behalf of our membership. Carol Baker, our longest-serving volunteer, is our Committee Lead, supported by Rosemary Clarke.
